• New payment option PayU By UPI is added to PayU payment gateway.

  • Unified Payment Infrastructure (UPI) is launched by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), governing body that operates the Rupay cards and Bharat bill payment system (BBPS) in India.

  • UPI has the following advantage to the customer:
    • The customer just needs to enter the VPA (virtual payment address eg: payu@axisbank) and not long card credentials. This is a problem, especially on mobile.
    • VPA is like an email address. The customer can share the same VPA with any other customer and they can transfer the funds directly into each other's account. Customers can link any bank account with their VPA handle. It is like transacting via wallet but the money stays in the customer bank account.
    • UPI honors the 2FA guidelines, laid by RBI in India. For this, the customer has to enter
    • M-Pin as a second-factor authentication. M-Pin is a 4-6 digit password. It is better than OTP, which is delayed sometimes, resulting in abandoning of the transaction.

  • For merchants, it lowers the cost of the transaction, as compared to credit card and net banking. Transaction approval rates for this payment method are highest since fewer hops are involved and all calls are S2S. This will result in less abandoning of the transaction for merchants and hence higher GMV.
