- Cross-sell is a marketing technique of suggesting 'similar products' or services to a customer when he is buying something.
- For example, when an end-user is buying a cell phone, he may be shown a list of similar phones in the same or other brands that are available with you.
- Up-sell is a marketing strategy of suggesting 'add-on products or accessories' related to that product when the customer is buying it.
- For example, if a customer is buying a cell phone, he may be shown a list of phone cases, USB Cables, memory cards, extra chargers, phone insurance products, etc…
- Cross-sell and Up-sell are used to encourage the purchase of higher-profit items and for increasing the average order size.
- They allow you to promote 'similar products' (Cross-Sell) or 'add-on products' (Up-Sell) on the same page that the customer is currently viewing.
- For example, if the user is searching for cell phones, showing similar phones of same or other brands is 'Cross-sell', while displaying phone cases, USB Cables, memory cards, extra batteries, phone insurance products, etc… is Up-sell.
